ARTIST INSIGHT: The Ghaf tree is significant as it is one of few trees that can survive the deserts of the Arab Peninsula to Afghanistan and India. However, urban spread, water withdrawal, and animal grazing threaten the future of this indispensable desert native and national tree of the UAE.  Therefore, this sculpture aims to encourage conservation of the tree’s aesthetic, cultural and ecological significance through its graceful presence.

This monumental work started its journey in Pennsylvania, where it was first installed in my studio. It was then carefully packed and shipped to the UAE with instructions for proper hanging. An art consultant group from the UK and a creative director in Canada collaborated with my team to design and fabricate this truly international art piece.
